Norfolk County

Norfolk County covers some of the South Shore and MetroWest areas of Massachusetts, south of Boston stretching from Quincy on the sea to a few western Boston suburbs to towns near the Rhode Island border. It also contains two municipalities, Brookline and Cohasset, that are no longer contiguous with the rest of Norfolk County because of annexations or voluntary removal to Suffolk County. Norfolk County is mostly middle-class or affluent, thanks to its desirable suburban and seaside areas. It also contains the town of Foxborough, where the New England Patriots play home games. The county seat is Dedham, which houses the Norfolk Superior Court. That court holds trials of serious felonies such as rape and indecent assault and battery of a child. Norfolk County also has five District Courts hearing lesser criminal matters like possession of child pornography and statutory rape.

Start Your Defense Early When Facing Sex Charges

Being charged with a sex crime in Massachusetts can be a life-changing experience. Unlike most other crimes, sex crimes come with a heavy personal price as well as criminal and civil penalties. Because people react strongly and emotionally to sex charges, defendants may find themselves shunned or their relationships with others strained when the news gets out. They can face problems at work, professional discipline in some professions or plain old firing. For certain crimes, especially violent ones or those involving children, they may be required to register as sex offenders and abide by the restrictions placed on offenders for decades after prison. And of course, the prison sentences themselves can be long and punitive. Under Massachusetts criminal law, it’s even possible to be sentenced to life in prison for some sex crimes.

The Law Offices of Stephen Neyman has extensive experience defending all types of sex crimes, from relatively minor matters to serious crimes attracting substantial media attention. We take cases at every stage, but we prefer to take them as early as possible in the justice system’s process — before an arrest, if we can. Starting legal representation early helps us build the fullest possible defense to the charges, but the advantages go far beyond that. In high-profile cases, we can avoid or limit a media circus by arranging for you to quietly and voluntarily come to the police for questioning, rather than wait for an embarrassing arrest. Regardless of how you get to a police interrogation room, early representation allows us to protect you from overly aggressive police techniques once you’re there. When your case is strong early on, we can negotiate with prosecutors to drop charges or never file them in the first place. All of this increases our chances of getting what we want for all our clients: the best outcome possible for their own individual circumstances.
