West Roxbury

Originally farmland considered part of the town of Roxbury, West Roxbury is a Boston neighborhood bordered by Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale and the neighboring city of Newton. Tree-lined streets and single-family homes in the predominately Irish area lend a suburban feel to urban West Roxbury. Part of Suffolk County, Massachusetts, West Roxbury's share of Boston's population has declined about 5 percent in each of the last three census surveys, accounting for 28,663 of the city's 589,141 residents in the 2000 census.

The West Roxbury Court sees its share of drug crimes many of which originate in Jamaica Plain and Roslindale. Most of these crimes are street level in nature. Low level informants working with local police provide tips and arrange controlled purchases of drugs from small dealers. Arrests are made after the police witness one of these transactions or actually participate in the buying process. The majority of these cases involve small amounts of cocaine and heroin. The resulting charges are often possession with the intent to distribute or distribution. If the activity occurs within a school zone additional charges are brought mandating jail time if not successfully defended.

Recently there have been large scale drug trafficking organizations identified and in some cases prosecuted in the West Roxbury area. Several of these cases prompted the filing of conspiracy and money laundering charges in addition to the underlying trafficking complaint. Federal criminal cases have been originating in the area as well. Our office has defended many of these cases successfully. Many of these results have been published in our case results pages.

For some reason this court has been staffed with the most reasonable, seasoned district attorney supervisors for years. They have been approachable from a criminal defense lawyer’s perspective.
