An inner-urban suburb of Boston, Chelsea is home to a diverse population of 35,080 along Boston Harbor. Located in Suffolk County, it is the smallest city in Massachusetts by land area but one of the most densely populated areas in the country. Developed as an industrial center on the harbor, Chelsea was built on the manufacturing of rubber, elastic goods, boots, shoes and adhesives and was nearly destroyed in two horrific fires in 1908 and 1973. The city later fell on hard times and in 1991 the state placed Chelsea into receivership, becoming the first city since the Great Depression to be placed in the hands of a state because of financial problems. The city later changed to a council-manager form of government, which has led to improved finances and in influx of homebuyers and businesses. A diverse working-class community, nearly half of Chelsea's residents are Hispanic or Latino. Median household income is $32,130 and almost 25 percent of the population lives below the poverty line.Defending People Accused of Drug Distribution and Possession in Chelsea, Massachusetts
With the change in demographics Chelsea has seen a tremendous increase in crime. As a consequence any crime imaginable has been prosecuted in the Chelsea District Court. Drug cases at times saturate the various courtrooms. Trafficking arrests are often made in Chelsea but they are prosecuted in the Superior Court. The drug cases that remain in the Chelsea Court are possession, distribution and possession with the intent to distribute. We defend these regularly in Chelsea. Over the years we have seen a pattern of conduct by untrained, ignorant or rogue police officers relative to Chelsea drug arrests. We have defended cases where for no reason our clients were searched by the police. Sometimes their homes were entered without a warrant. Other times the search warrants contained challengeable representations made by unreliable informants. Other clients who spoke no English were arrested and purportedly gave damaging statements to officers who did not speak a word of their language. Exposing these constitutional violations has secured victories for our clients at all stages of the proceedings.Defending All Crimes in Chelsea
