Concord

Concord is a relatively small town, with an estimated population of 17,580 in 2009. But for students of American literature or American history, it’s a must. Concord and neighboring Lexington hosted the first battle of the Revolutionary War, repulsing British soldiers who sought to capture arms stored there. In the nineteenth century, Concord became the home of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott and Nathaniel Hawthorne, all of whom were contemporaries in the same social circle. The Concord grape was also developed in and named after the town. Concord has its own district court, at 305 Walden Street, serving a total of eight towns in Middlesex County.
