Felony and Misdemeanor Crimes

There is a tremendous range of criminal activity that is prosecuted in the Lawrence Court. Many of the more serious felonies are initially charged in this court where they are tracked until the district attorney's office obtains an indictment to the superior court. Murder, robbery, rape, home invasion, drug trafficking, carjacking and kidnapping cases often commence in the Lawrence District Court where the defendant will be arraigned and bail will be set. Sometimes these charges will be "broken down" to a lesser included offense over which the district court has jurisdiction. Other crimes such as domestic assault and battery, drug possession and drug distribution, OUI and assault and battery represent much of the cases that filter through this court each day.

The efficiency of the Lawrence District Court has enabled Attorney Stephen Neyman and the Lawrence criminal attorneys in our office to obtain swift justice in this jurisdiction when necessary. Between four and six judges sit in this district court at all times. One of the courtrooms, usually the first session is dedicated to arraignments and bail hearings. This is the courtroom where cases are initiated. In other words, anyone arrested or summonsed to court will likely first go before a judge in this courtroom. We recommend anyone in this situation hire a lawyer to represent you at this proceeding.

Another courtroom in this courthouse is set aside for evidentiary matters such as motions to suppress and motions to dismiss. These matters are heard daily. On countless occasions our Lawrence criminal defense attorneys have prevailed on judges sitting in this session to rule in our favor. Often times the ruling leads to a dismissal of all charges.
